Another Day On The Treadmill…….

Well, I had another inspiring day at the gym this morning and unlike so many others, this one was actually pleasant.

While running at a pretty good pace on the treadmill and only partially watching the TV, I could not help but overhear the conversation between the two young ladies completing their morning walk on the treadmills next to me.

The framework of their conversation focused on one of the young lady’s husbands. It seems that he had lost his job and had decided that he would like to leave the area, return to school and complete a post graduate degree. As the discussion continued, the lady whose husband had made the decision was airing her anxieties over this issue, specifically her fear of giving up a pretty good teaching position at one of the local elementary schools. But since they had no children, were only renting and being fully aware of the economic stress that lay before them, the young lady stated in a very understanding tone that “she wanted to be supportive of her husband’s dreams” and therefore would make the sacrifice.

At this point I could not resist, I had to make a statement. I said to the ladies; “Excuse me but I couldn’t help but overhear you conversation. I always thought it was the woman’s place to CRUSH the dreams of the man she loved.” I went back to my run. With a good laugh, the ladies seemed to enjoy the interjection of humor.

I hope the young lady and her husband are successful, no matter what decision they make. Life goes on; don’t get stuck on the treadmill.
